Welcome to Year 2's class page.
The class teacher in Year 2 is Miss Jones
The class LSA's are Mrs Wood & Miss Kellett
Please use the links at the side of the page to keep up to date with what's going on in our wonderful class.
Please ensure that your child reads daily. They should be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. It is important that they read to an adult/older sibling as often as possible. Please ask your child questions about what they have read to build up their understanding and encourage them to give opinions about the book. Your child will be heard read twice a week in class by the class teacher or LSA. Your child will be provided with a post-it note each day for you to write your comments on after hearing them read. This will return to school and the children will then stick them in their reading diary. Once a book is finished it will be placed in a box for 2 days and then be put back as normal for other children to read.
Reading diaries must remain in school
Your child will also be given the opportunity to take home a library book to build up a love for reading. This will be changed every Friday.
Spellings will be allocated weekly through our online learning page. Children will be encouraged to practise these at home in preparation for a weekly quiz on a Monday.
Throughout the week in class, we will be looking at these spellings for 10/15 minutes per day and learning a spelling pattern which will help the children for their spelling quiz and future learning.
At the moment, our water fountains in the school have been turned off. It is important children come to school with a labelled water bottle. These can be accessed throughout the day and children are given the opportunity within lessons to have a drink, they are also taken out at break and lunch times. Children have the opportunity to fill up their water bottles within the classroom throughout the day. Water bottles will come home at the end of the school day.
Due to the current situation, the majority of Home Learning will take place online. Any child who doesn't have access to a device will be provided with paper copies to take home. NO HOME LEARNING IS TO BE BROUGHT IN TO SCHOOL. Instead, any written work can be emailed to the following email address;
homelearning @ourladyoffatimatrust.essex.sch.uk with FAO Miss Jones and Year 2 in the subject heading
Please click on the correct term to the right of this page to find current Home Learning activities. Home learning will be allocated on a Wednesday, as well as spellings children will be set weekly maths homework on Active learn Abacus.
During year 2 we will be continuing on with our phonics teaching. We will be using floppy phonics to help all children develop in their phonics learning journey.
Every Friday children will be given some sentences that will include the sounds we gave completed within our phonics lessons during the week.
These sentences can be read at home to further help your child with their sounding out and recognising how sounds appear in certain words. These sentences do not need to be given back and can stay at home to be practised at any time instead they can be sent to the home learning email.
Our P.E. day will be on a Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure your child arrives at school wearing their P.E. kit on this day as they will not be changing in school.
Our P.E. day is on a Tuesday, children should come into school wearing their P.E. kit as they will not be changing in school. It is important children come in with any jewellery already removed. P.E. lessons will take place outside so children will need the appropriate clothing, this can be a navy/black jumper and joggers if needed. Appropriate footwear must also be worn such as black trainers or plimsolls as some of our lessons will be on the Astro turf.
Please click on our Term pages at the side to find out what we are currently learning about in class!
Please be reminded that children are not to bring in party bags or sweets. Instead we ask that a book is donated to our school/class library.
