Meet The Teacher

To find out more about the year ahead please take a look at the 'Meet the Teacher' sway here.

Please find an outline of the expectations for the year below.

Reading

Please ensure that your child reads daily.  They should be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books.  It is important that they read to an adult/older sibling as often as possible.  Please ask your child questions about what they have read and encourage them to give opinions about the book.  Please do make any notes of when you have heard your child read in the diary this can be kept in their bag and brought in daily, so we can change the books during the week. Do feel free to add any additional texts they may be reading at home into this record - this is a great way for us to see the type of texts they enjoy reading too.

Spellings

There is a list of words that all children are expected to know by the end of the year, it can be found here on the school website.  We work on these words in our lessons and they will be part of weekly spelling lists. Please encourage your child to practise these words as often as possible. They will also need to know the year 2 spelling list confidently.  A weekly spelling quiz will be on Wednesdays. There is also a document which shares some spelling strategies that we use in class to help your child learn spellings at home this can be found on our class page on the school website.

P.E

Year 3 P.E lessons are on Mondays & Thursdays.  Please ensure your child’s kit is brought into school and can be taken home at the end of each half-term.  All items should be clearly labelled, especially trainers/ plimsolls as these are used at other times in the week during playtimes if the children are on the pitch or our climbing frame twister.

Topic

This term our topic is Finding out from Fossils.  You can find further details in the 'Our Learning' section of the website.

Home Learning

We set home learning on a half-termly basis to support your child's understanding of their work in school:
- Spellings to learn each week for the weekly spelling quiz on Wednesdays.
- Weekly online maths activities to support your child's learning in class each week. New maths activities are allocated on Wednesdays. These can be found at www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Your child has their own unique login details. If you don't have these, please let a teacher know as soon as possible.
- A fun, topic-related menu of activities will be set and is available on Teams. We suggest completing one a week.

Children are awarded 2 house points for every maths and topic-related home learning activity that they complete and we also celebrate this learning in class on a weekly basis.
