Information for Parents
Meet The Teacher
To find out more about the year ahead please take a look at the 'Meet the Teacher' sway here
Please find an outline of the expectations for the year below.
Reading
Please ensure that your child reads daily. They should be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. It is important that they read to an adult/older sibling as often as possible. Please ask your child questions about what they have read and encourage them to give opinions about the book. Please make a note on the post-it notes provided to you when you have heard your child read and we will then make a note of this in their diary.
Spellings
There is a list of Year 3 and 4 spelling words that all children are expected to know by the end of Lower Key Stage 2. We work on these words in our lessons but please encourage your child to practise these words as often as possible. They will also need to know the year 2 spelling list confidently. A weekly spelling quiz will be on Fridays. Below you can find a list of the Year 1 and 2 spellings and the Year 3 and 4 spellings. There is also a document which shares some spelling strategies that we use in class to help your child learn spellings at home.
P.E
Year 3 P.E lessons are on Tuesdays. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct kit on these days. All items should be clearly labelled.
Topic
This term our topic is Finding out From Fossils. You can find further details in the 'Our Learning' section of the website.
Home Learning
We set home learning on a half-termly basis to support your child's understanding of their work in school:
- Spellings to learn each week for the weekly spelling quiz on Fridays.
- Weekly online maths activities to support your child's learning in class each week. New maths activities are allocated on Fridays. These can be found at www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Your child has their own unique login details. If you don't have these, please let a teacher know as soon as possible.
- A fun, topic-related menu of activities will be set on the website and on Teams. We suggest completing one a week.
Children are awarded 2 house points for every maths and topic-related home learning activity that they complete and we also celebrate this learning in class on a weekly basis.
