Wednesday 6th January 2021
Good morning,
I hope that you are all well. Thank you to those of you that sent in pictures of the amazing work your children have been up to. It was lovely to see the results of their hard work, and I enjoyed giving out lots of house points. Thank you also to those of you who pointed out any techincal issues accessing the Sways. I have changed the access settings so you should be able to access today's lessons with no issues. Please feel no pressure to complete all of the lessons today; only do what you feel able to.
Topic
Our Topic lesson today is all about understanding where the polar regions are located and how this affects when they experience the different seasons. There are some interactive activities and a writing task to complete. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
English
In English, we will be exploring the structure of a balanced argument. The children will try and order a balanced argument by looking for time adverbials and the key features, and will then have the opportunity to list their own reasons for and against a similar topic. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
Maths
Our Maths lesson today provides a recap of unit fractions. It is really important to recap this work before we move on to finding non-unit fractions of amounts. Hopefully your child will remember some of this work that we did in school. There are several quizzes and videos on this topic. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
Guided Reading
Our Guided Reading today focuses on predicting and explore the language used in the extract. The children will be thinking about the author’s choice of language to describe these characters, and the effect of these words. They will then predict what they think the characters will be like. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
Wellbeing
The theme for today's wellbeing is 'Be kind'. Can your child perform an act of kindness today such as helping with the washing up or playing with a sibling, and reflect on how their actions made that person feel.
Please remember that today is the Feast of The Epiphany. The Church of the Assumption in Old Harlow are live screening their Mass and we are all invited to join at 10am through this link: http://www.churchservices.tv/harlow
I look forward to seeing how you get on with the activities.
Many thanks,
Miss Ashborn
