Happy New Year! I hope that you and your family are well. My family and I are all blessed with good health at this time and I am looking forward to getting stuck into our learning this term.
Each day I shall be sending an email outlining the lessons for the day and providing links to the Sway presentations. You do not need to print out any resources for your child; they can be completed on an electronic device or with a pen and paper. If you have any questions about the work, please do not hesitate to send me an email. I would also love to see pictures of your child’s learning and award them some house points so do send pictures of any work you would like to share. This email shall be monitored once a day and I shall endeavour to reply as soon as possible.
In English today, we are starting to explore the genre of balanced arguments. The children will be reading an example of a balanced argument and identifying the key features. The spellings for today focus on words beginning with “g” and “gu”. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
This term, we shall be reading The Great Elephant Chase by Gillian Cross. The children will be able to watch Mr Wix read an extract from the book. The activities today focus around the vocabulary used by the author in the opening. I hope the children really engage with this book. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
Our first Maths lesson is recalling mental strategies for multiplying and dividing. The children will be practising doubling and halving and using these to help them multiply and divide by a range of numbers. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
Our topic for this term is Planet in Peril. The first lesson, launched today, introduces this topic and encourages the children to reflect upon what they already know and what they would like to find out. They will also have the opportunity to be creative and design their own topic cover. The Sway for this lesson can be found here.
The wellbeing activity for today focuses on ‘Being Active’. In school, we would do our Daily Mile for 15 minutes. Perhaps you could try this at home, for example by running around your garden or a park for 15 minutes.
This Wednesday is the Feast of The Epiphany. The Church of the Assumption in Old Harlow are live screening their Mass and we are all invited to join at 10am through this link: http://www.churchservices.tv/harlow
Mrs Black will have a Gospel Assembly each week and Mrs Black and Mrs Kendal are each day providing a story time - these are available on the Parents Secure Area of the website (access details are sent to parents by the office)
I hope that you all stay safe and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
