Through God’s love we learn together, grow together and achieve together.

Reading:

In Year One we love reading and listening to stories. We will work really hard to learn all our sounds to help us read. It is important that the children in Year 1 read every day to help develop our reading skills, they will read at least twice a week with an adult. Please help us instil a love of reading by reading with your child at home every day too, and discussing what has been read and writing in their diary.

In addition to this each child will choose a book from our library and bring home on a Monday, this will need to be brought back into school the following Monday for them to change the book.

Home learning:

Children will choose an activity from the home learning grid each week, they will receive their home learning book to complete the activity on a Wednesday and this will be due back in on the following Monday.

Spellings: will be given out on a Wednesday and the children will have a spelling quiz on a Monday.  The spellings are based on the phonic sounds they have been learning that week.

Phonics (cumulative text): will be give our on a Friday.  They are sentences for the children to read and go over the sounds they have learnt that week.

Abacus: Each week the children will be sent a maths activity to complete online.  User names and passwords will be given out.

PE: Year 1’s PE days are Tuesday and Thursdays so please make sure your child has their kit in school.

---Spare clothes----

Please could you provide your child with some spare clothes (underwear/trousers) in case of accidents/weather. If your child has borrowed school clothes, could these be brought back please.

Many thanks.
