This half term, Reception is learning all about toys. We are excited to learn all about old and new toys.
If you have any books, information or relevant pictures, children are most welcome to bring these in to support our learning

Communication and Language
The children will talk about their weekend activities. They will join in with nursery rhymes, songs and stories; express opinions and explain likes and dislikes. Use language to take on and act out imaginary roles. Respond and listen during whole class and group work.
Writing- Formation of letters, experiment with mark making and incorporate writing into play situations.
Reading- Shared, guided and individual reading. Key tricky words.
Jolly Phonics- Listening and rhyme games, initial letter sounds, VC and CVC words i.e. in, on, cat, pen. We will cover phase 2 and 3 this term.
Your child has been given a book please make sure you read with your child everyday and write a comment in their reading diary. They need to have their reading book in school every day. Reading books will be changed twice a week if the diary has been signed and your child is ready to move on to another book.
The children will develop counting, reading and writing, reciting and using number skills. They will learn to recognise and sequence numbers from 0 to 10 and beyond. Count up to 10 objects reliably. Talk about, recognise and recreate simple patterns. Shape and space- begin to name flat and solid shapes. Use associated vocabulary- more, less, longer, shorter. Compare two quantities. Use everyday words to describe position and direction. Be able to recognise and use money.
Physical Development- Physical development is incorporated throughout the curriculum subjects through different activities. Spatial awareness, balance skills, problem skills, and throwing and catching. We have PE with Mr Prentice on a Monday afternoon, please ensure that children have an inside and outside kit as the weather is getting colder.
Personal, Social and Emotional- The children will explore their new environment and experiences. Express feelings and develop self-confidence and esteem. Learn classroom rules and appropriate behaviour. Take turns and share equipment.
Understanding the World
The children will be looking at the difference between old and new toys, and how they have changed over time.
Expressive Art and Design
Art: The children will be making their own toys’ that they have designed.
Music: We have music on Friday morning with Mrs Child. The children sing a range of songs and play musical games as well as exploring musical instruments
In the Foundation Stage it is very important that your child is given regular access to outdoor provision. During this time activities will be planned for to include the seven areas of learning. Please could your child bring a coat daily, and wellington boots with their name on to stay in school.
