Autumn Term 1 Topic – ‘Awesome Egyptians’
Hook with a book: 'The Red Pyramid' by Rick Riordan
Guided Reading: 'Jake Atlas and the Tomb of the Emerald Snake' by Rob Lloyd Jones
Ancient Egypt. A fascinating world and a great Topic to start with! Children are invited to look at some of the Pharaohs and the development of the pyramids, as well as the mythology that surrounded this early civilisation. They will investigate the role the Nile had in allowing this civilisation to flourish and examine daily life of common Egyptians. A great opportunity to build children’s knowledge of the period when the Ancient Egyptians were powerful in the world, to discover how the Ancient Egyptian civilisation came to an end and also to learn about the evidence of Ancient Egypt that exists in modern Egypt today.
We greatly enjoyed this Topic! We found out interesting facts about this fascinating time in history. We used all these facts and other more to create excellent pieces of work and to develop further our skills. We researched information about some of the rulers of Ancient Egypt and recorded facts about an individual pharaoh to make a fact file. Also, to write about a pharaoh … we became one! And not any Pharaoh, but the one and only King Tut! We read “Jake Atlas and the Tomb of the Emerald Snake”. We LOVED it! This story took us to so many places in Egypt that they became so familiar to us … up to the point where we ended up writing some captivating descriptions about them! We created excellent Home Learning pieces and displayed them around our classroom. We showed them to all our friends during our Class Assembly too! Just to show everyone how AWESOME we are!
